The Coolest Thing EVER!

Ok....maybe I'm a weirdo, but I have always loved the Viewmaster! Remember those when you were a kid?  I was lucky enough to inherit a vintage Viewmaster from 1949.  It came from Brian's Great Aunt Helen.  She was married, didn't have children, but traveled everywhere. Instead of postcards she purchased a Viewmaster reel. The reels in my possession are dated from the 40's through the 60's.  I have reels from Hawaii, Canada, to New York.  It's like traveling back in time. How things have changed since then.

I decided to stop hiding this box of treasures away and bring them out for people to enjoy..for us to enjoy. I bought this red lantern and put all of Aunt Helen's vacation reels inside. Here is her vintage 1949 Viewmaster, in all of its glory.

So you are probably disappointed wondering what is so "cool?"  Well look below!  I found a company off of
Pinterest called Image 3D, that will take your photos and put them on your VERY OWN VIEWMASTER reel!!! How cool is that?! Now I can add my family's travel photos to Aunt Helen's and continue her legacy.
I have it displayed on my end table just waiting to be viewed......quite a conversation piece right? ; )
Off to CHA Today to help set up at the JustRite booth! Can't wait to see all of my crafty friends!!
Have a great day!!!

That is the coolest thing ever! I love Viewmasters also. Had one as a kid and it was a favorite possession. Wonder what happened to it?

Oh my goodness...you're absolutely right...that is the coolest thing ever!! How awesome is that to be able to get your photos on a View Master!! I used to have one of those (like many of us did) as a kid but now I only have a handful of the VM Discs and no viewer. Most of the discs that I have are from the 1940's that belonged to my dad when he was a kid.

We have both our kids viewmaster viewer and disks, and also those of my husband's grandmother with her travel disks. I never thought of bringing them out again. What a great idea. I think I'll get them out at our family Christmas party this year!

Oh my gosh, I have this EXACT same Viewmaster, and a bunch of those reels too! It has been packed away in a trunk for years, but I really need to take it out and share it with my girls... I think they will love it just as much as I did when I was younger.
What a fun way to look at family pictures too... I might have to look into this. :) Thanks for sharing!

Oh Michelle, I think this is the coolest thing ever!!! How lucky for you to have it and be able to share in the wonders that I am sure are on those reels. Wow, I wish I could take a peek at just one. I know that if I had that in my home it would take you hours to get me to stop looking at all of them. The time periods that you must be seeing through that is just over the top fantastic I am sure! I am so glad that you shared with us all. What a find indeed. Have fun at CHA, I wish I was going to be there. That is one of my things on my bucklist for sure. lol... Hugs, Lisa G

That really is one of the coolest things ever! We had a View Master projector when I was a kid, and it was always a special treat when my parents would bring the screen for us to use it.

Love how you're displaying these!
